The brookies are active. I've been going 2 or 3 times a week since mid-Feb. with sporadic successs, which is good enough for me. So far, I've covered most of the Piney and Thornton (North Fork), the south fork of the Thornton, Buck Run, and Brokenback Run. Had the most success on the upper Piney near the falls, which is 7000 paces in from where you park. Caught 2 beauties today in between wind gusts on Broken back on the very first pool inside the park boundary. Mr. Rapidan nymphs(both), Beadhead Prince nymphs, and Mr, Rapidan dries #16 have worked the best. I use Harry's leader system, and when the trout start taking the orange strike indicators I switch to a leader without the SA's and use a dry fly. It seems to be working. BAD NEWS! For those of you that fish the Hughes, be aware that the little parking area right next to the start of Nicholson Hollow Trail is no longer available. Somebody cut up a bunch of brush and blocked the 3 or 4 spaces there, and there are new Posted signs stuck on just about every tree.
